SOUTH WEST WILDFLOWER TRAIL

THE LARGEST FLORAL SHOW ON EARTH

The wildflower collection in Western Australia is the largest on Earth. With more than 12,000 species, over 60% of which are found nowhere else on Earth, they colour the landscapes from coast to forest and city to outback.

PERFECT TIME TO EXPLORE THE SOUTH WEST REGION

The Great Southern region between Mount Barker, Albany and Denmark hosts some of the world’s most dramatic and biodiverse landscapes, with tall-tree forests and spectacular granite ranges.

WILDFLOWERS IN DENMARK

The best places to see wildflowers in Denmark are along the many walking trails or the national parks and nature reserves.

Enjoy driving or walking through temperate forests and discover the hidden wonders of the forest floor. These amazing ecosystems support a large variety of native animals and delicate wildflowers. In season, the forest is ablaze with orchids, purple native wisteria and green kangaroo paw.

The following are only some of the places we recommend visiting during this time of the year to spot wildflowers. A good idea is to stop at the Denmark Visitor Centre and ask about local wildflower guides and tours.

WILLIAM BAY NATIONAL PARK (right next door to us)

The park comes to life in spring, when it is beautifully coloured by wildflowers. The park's vegetation is dominated by dense scrub, with a thick covering of dryandra and peppermints. The white blossoms of the sticky tailflower can be found on the rocky, rugged coastline.

You can spot wildflowers along our private beach track, which leads to Mazzoletti Beach.

VALLEY OF THE GIANTS TREE TOP WALK (35 min drive from us)

Take time to explore the marked trails that meander through the hollow trunks of the amazing tingle trees and learn about the local flora and the evolution of the forests. In season, the forest is ablaze with crowea, orchids, purple native hovea, wisteria and green kangaroo paw.

WEST CAPE HOWE NATIONAL PARK (1 hr drive from us)

The park is home to banksia, dryandra, hakea and plants from the myrtaceae family. The area is also a habitat for the insect trapping Albany pitcher plant.

The Southern Wonders Trail provides a guide to wildflower touring in the South West and the wildflower directory includes a list of all the wildflowers you are likely to see during your visit to Denmark - click here to find out where you can find the latest wildflowers that are blooming right around the state.

PLEASE REMEMBER

Take a picture, not a flower. Not only will it last longer, but you’ll help preserve our native flora and will avoid attracting a $2000 fine.
